Verónica Ortega
Verónica Ortega is one of the great promises of Spanish wine. Originally from Cadiz, she left her Andalusian homeland after finishing her oenology studies at the University of Cadiz to embark on an intense learning path that would lead her to work in different countries and always alongside some of the greatest names in wine.
In Priorat, Ortega harvested grapes alongside Daphne Glorian and Álvaro Palacios. She later worked in a biodynamic winery in New Zealand and returned to the Old World to continue learning alongside Laurent Combier in the Rhône (Domaine Combier, Crozes-Hermitage) and to become the first woman to be part of the technical team of the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
An exceptional experience that reaffirmed her conviction that creating fresh wines with personality was possible, and that gave her the wings to realise her dream. Three great masters, specialists in discovering places with hidden potential: Raúl Pérez, Ricardo Pérez Palacios and Álvaro Palacios, were particularly convincing in the choice of the area. In 2010, Ortega carried out her first trials in Bierzo at Raúl Pérez's winery and, two years later, she settled in Valtuille de Abajo to give a definitive shape to her most personal project.
Verónica Ortega's wines are authentic signature wines, wines with an identity and a marked personality, which this enthusiastic woman achieves by working with an exceptional terroir and raw material, grapes from old vineyards, which give great complexity and depth to the wines. Wines that, as she herself explains, she would like to make only by intuition, as this is her way of understanding the profession and what makes it magical.
