Vigneti Massa

A real figure in the world of wine, Walter Massa is regarded today as a master of Italian oenology. The land and the indigenous varieties have been a first and foremost mission throughout his life, and his Timorasso wine, an exceptional white from the Tortona Hills, between the Piemonte and Lombardy, has become a cult wine in Italy. An opponent of guides and classifications, Walter Massa has engaged in his work by showing exceptional creativity and great loyalty to the vineyards and their sustainability, with the aim of delivering with every single bottle the highest quality and maximum representation of the terroir and the vine.

The essential characteristic of wines made by Walter Massa is their minerality. It's not the fashionable sort, following market trends, but a commanding and resolute minerality. It's clear and vertical in the early years of his wines, but majestic and momentous as the years pass by, when the wine becomes ever grander, more golden and with a mesh of hydrocarbons that only the most exclusive wines can confer. At the Massa winery, in Tortona, there are now four generations who have encapsulated in each bottle the history of a vintage and a cru, thanks to maturing on the lees, and only in steel tanks, which gives rise to a wine of great personality. This is how a variety in danger of extinction such as the Timorasso has turned into an absolute revelation. A variety which gives us one of Italy's most mineral and long-living whites, capable of defying time with amazing perfection.

The mineral fullness of the immense Sterpi, the citrus aromas and quality of Costa del Vento, the flavour-filled fruit and elegance of Montecitoro... these are some of the wines which have put the vineyards of Walter Massa in the Tortona Hills firmly on the map. Not only whites. The winery shows off its experience by offering us an excellent range of Barberas that's a national market leader, a collection of wines which always bears the house's hallmark but also its own personality.
