Beerenauslese

Beerenauslese, or BA, is the name given to sweet wines which in Austria and Germany are halfway between the Auslese (partially botrytised) and the Trockenbeerenauslese (totally dehydrated due to the effects of noble rot). For this Noble Rot wine the selection of grapes has been carried out even more rigorously than for the Ausleses; they are very sweet and complex wines, with long cellaring potential. The best are made from Riesling grapes, due to the excellent balance this variety offers between acidity and sweetness. Very similar to the Beerenausleses are Alsace’s Sélection de Grains Nobles.
